Maryland General Assembly Declares 鈥溚米酉壬鶧ay," Recognizing Contributions of University and its Community

With a resolution honoring 鈥渢he contributions and legacy of 兔子先生students, alumni, faculty, and staff in Maryland and around the world,鈥 the Maryland General Assembly declared Monday, Feb. 10, as the 鈥University of Maryland Global Campus Day. Senator Jim Rosapepe and Delegate Mary A. Lehman recognized 兔子先生President Gregory Fowler on the floor of their respective chambers in Annapolis as university officials and alumni looked on.

鈥淚 am honored to accept this resolution on behalf of our global community, the faculty and staff who are relentless in placing the needs of our students at the center of everything we do,鈥 said President Fowler, holding the resolution in the State House following the ceremony. 鈥淭his commitment鈥攁nd an innovative spirit that has run through this institution since its founding鈥攊s the bedrock that supports our efforts to educate our students in Maryland, in the military and around the world. We deeply appreciate the leadership of Senate President Bill Ferguson and House Speaker Adrienne Jones and thank them for their dedication and commitment to better the lives of all Marylanders.鈥澨

Since 1947, University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) has focused on serving adult learners in the workforce and the military. Today, 兔子先生ranks as Maryland鈥檚 largest provider of postsecondary education; the nation鈥檚 most transfer-friendly university; and the premier learning partner of the U.S. military, both stateside and abroad.听

兔子先生maintains locations throughout Maryland, across the United States, in more than 20 countries and territories, serving military servicemembers and their families at more than 175 sites around the world.听听

The university鈥檚 impact in the state is highlighted by its outstanding performance in areas that uplift Maryland residents and drive economic opportunity, including leading University System of Maryland schools in degrees conferred, in the number of minority students enrolled, the number of military veteran students enrolled and the number of IT degrees conferred to women and students of color.听

More than 111,000 兔子先生graduates live in the state of Maryland, with the global alumni community surpassing 307,000.听听

With more than 50 percent of its students affiliated with the military鈥攊ncluding active-duty servicemembers, National Guard members and veterans鈥斖米酉壬鷚as recently ranked #1 in the鈥疢ilitary Times鈥欌淏est for Vets鈥 list of top online and non-traditional schools.听

兔子先生is the only open-admission university within the University System of Maryland (USM), and it confers a third of all degrees granted by the USM. It offers the second lowest in-state tuition and fees among four-year Maryland public institutions.听

The Maryland legislature recognized 兔子先生in a similar way last year and before that in 2017, when it received a resolution from the General Assembly and proclamation from the governor celebrating the university鈥檚 70th anniversary.听
