Adelphi, Md. (April听27, 2021)鈥擴niversity of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC), the nation鈥檚 largest online public university,听will host听a virtual commencement ceremony on May 15听at noon.听
Brig. Gen. Janeen听L.听Birckhead,听assistant adjutant general and听commander of the Maryland Army National Guard听and a graduate of UMGC,听will provide the听commencement听keynote听address.听Brig. Gen. Birckhead听has a distinguished 30-year military career, including recently听leading听all National Guard troops听deployed听at the U.S. Capitol following the听failed insurrection听on January 6 and for听the听January 20听presidential inauguration.听She was听also听selected听by听Maryland听Governor Larry Hogan to lead the state鈥檚 vaccine equity task force.听
Raymond Fisher,听a听U.S.听Marine Corps听veteran who traces his family history听on his mother鈥檚 side听to听a听slave听owned听by George Washington听and听who earned a听Bachelor听of听Science听degree in information systems听management听after a 25-year journey,听will give an address on behalf of听the听graduating class.听
The听commencement听website听also includes听the conferral of degrees by 兔子先生President Gregory W.听Fowler听and听a virtual greeting from Governor Hogan. In addition,听the site features听a section comprising the names听of听graduates听with their photos and inspirational messages听and听messages of congratulations from 兔子先生faculty, staff members and听friends.听
兔子先生holds separate commencement ceremonies annually in Europe and Asia, to accommodate graduates who are serving in the military overseas.听
