In this section, you will find all the information you need to make an informed decision about your employee retirement options. Please Note: Adjunct Faculty employees are not eligible for enrollment in Maryland State Pension or Optional Retirement Programs.
Retirement Benefits Overview
ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉúretirement plans are based upon exemption status and employment classification, and for certain segments of our workforce, programs and participation are mandatory under state law. In addition to these state-mandated programs, ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉúoffers supplemental retirement annuity (SRA) plans through several providers. These plans are open to all employees.
Supplemental Retirement Annuity Information—All Employees
All ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉúemployees are eligible to participate in Supplemental Retirement Accounts (SRAs) with one or more of the following SRA plans:
- 403(b) – Pre-tax, post-tax, and Roth options
- 457(b) – Pre-tax, post-tax, and Roth options
- 401(k) – Pre-tax, post-tax, and Roth options

2025 Contribution Limits
- For the 2025 calendar year, employees may contribute up to $23,500 annually to their SRA accounts. Additional contributions are permitted for individuals who meet the following age-based criteria:
- Employees aged 50 or older may contribute an additional $7,500
- Employees aged 60 through 63 may contribute an additional $11,250 (special catch-up provision)
Maximum Contribution Limits (under age 50)
- 403(b) or 401(k): $23,500
- 457(b): $23,500
- Total (if contributing to both plans): $47,000
Catch-Up Contribution Limits (for employees age 50 or older in 2025)
- 403(b) or 401(k): $31,000
- 457(b): $31,000
- Total: $62,000
Super Catch-Up Contribution Limits (for employees aged 60–63 in 2025)
- 403(b) or 401(k): $34,750
- 457(b): $34,750
- Total: $69,500
